Amanda Singh Birmingham
Deputy Chief of Staff and Energy Advisor
Amanda Singh Birmingham serves as Deputy Chief of Staff and Energy Advisor to Commissioner Houck.
Amanda started her career at the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) in 2017 and worked as a Senior Analyst in the Energy Division implementing California’s Renewables Portfolio Standard (RPS) program. In this role, Amanda oversaw renewable energy planning, procurement, and compliance activities for electric investor-owned utilities, community choice aggregators and electric service providers. From 2021 to 2023 Amanda served as a Senior Legislative Consultant in the CPUC’s Office of Governmental Affairs working with the state legislature on policy issues including electric and gas system reliability, transmission permitting, distribution system planning, customer generation, transportation electrification, and broadband infrastructure deployment.
Prior to the CPUC, Amanda worked as an Energy Policy Intern at the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Energy Resources and a Graduate Student Researcher at University of California (UC) San Diego. Amanda holds a master’s degree in International Affairs from UC San Diego and a bachelor’s degree in International Security and Conflict Resolution from San Diego State University.
